Google’s Exciting Update to NotebookLM
Google has given its research and podcast tool, NotebookLM, an exciting update that makes usage even simpler and more intuitive. From now on, the tool can independently search the web for information without you having to painstakingly provide documents or links. The new “Discover” feature allows you to simply enter a topic, and NotebookLM will show you relevant web sources like Wikipedia, expert sites, or YouTube videos. The best part? You can rate these sources, which helps improve the AI further.
Curiosity Feature and Plus Version
Another highlight is the “I’m Curious Today” option. Here, the tool independently finds interesting information for you. This feature is still somewhat hidden, but for those of you who don’t know exactly what you’re looking for, it could be extremely useful. For power users, there’s also a paid Plus version that offers advanced features.
Notebook and Search Capabilities
NotebookLM offers the ability to create up to 100 notebooks, with each notebook containing up to 50 sources — and with an impressive word count of up to 500,000 per source. The search time is generally between 30 and 40 seconds, making research efficient. Additionally, there is a practical chat function through which you can directly ask questions. New is also the MindMap feature, which helps you navigate the content visually.
Podcast Features and Future Developments
Particularly popular is the podcast feature “Audio Overviews”, which summarizes content on a desired topic in entertaining podcasts — currently, however, only in English. With the introduction of web search, Google shows that NotebookLM aims to further develop as a comprehensive research tool. It remains exciting to see how the features will unfold in the future!
