Google’s New AI Mode in Search
Google has rolled out its new „AI Mode“ in search in Germany. This innovative mode uses a special model called Gemini 2.5, specifically developed for search queries. Instead of traditional link lists, the AI Mode provides immediate and detailed answers to complex questions. It combines real-time search with an extensive database, known as the Knowledge Graph. This means that not only can you ask text-based questions, but image-based queries are also possible.
Interactive Dialogue Feature
A special feature of the AI Mode is the ability to engage in a sort of dialogue, similar to interacting with a chatbot. The responses are generated based on your previous search queries and your location, if you allow it. Compared to simple AI overviews displayed in search queries, the AI Mode processes significantly more information to provide more comprehensive answers.
Impact on Search Queries and Web Traffic
Google emphasizes that many of the questions users now ask did not exist before because there simply were no answers. These new questions are often more detailed and longer than usual search queries, which also explains why the total number of search queries has increased by ten percent. However, a point of criticism remains that the content Google collects and processes has previously brought clicks and thus advertising revenue to many website operators, which may now decline. In the USA, it is already being legally examined whether Google has a monopoly through its approach.
Advertising Integration and Future Prospects
Additionally, Google is testing the integration of advertising in the AI Mode, but initially only in the USA. Whether and when this feature will be available worldwide remains uncertain. Overall, the AI Mode aims to provide deeper insights and more detailed information on topics that go beyond the capabilities of a standard search engine.
